What is your role and main responsibilities at Mint?

Credit control.  In a nut shell I am responsible for making sure people pay on time, this involves lots of things!  To name a few – dealing with any queries in a timely manner and chasing payments. I love the chase!

Can you describe a typical day in your role?

Not easily!  But each day does include managing our accounts inbox, allocating payments, checking the payments include everything due (and chasing anything missing).

How did you get started in your career, and what brought you to Mint?

I began working at a hotel at 15, quickly falling in love with the fast paced environment I found myself building a 23 year career out of the hospitality industry!  I am especially proud of being on the senior management team at the Mere Golf Resort and Spa, and Food & Beverage Operations Manager at Chester Zoo.  I was a client of Mint’s at both of those amazing venues, this is how I built a relationship with the directors.  They offered me a job and the rest is history.  I initially worked in the operations team, 7 months ago I was offered a role in accounts which was a complete curve ball! But the best curve ball anyone has ever thrown my way!

What is a professional achievement you’re particularly proud of?

Wow, a few.  But I have to say completely changing career path at the tender age of 39 and loving it!  Huge credit to Mint for giving me the opportunity.

What skills do you find most essential for your role?

I would have to say being relentless!  I will not let anything go haha!

How do you approach problem-solving and decision-making in your job?

Check the maths twice before committing to an answer!

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

It was actually our MD Reina!  I am not sure I have ever told her this…  we were just coming out of the last lockdown, everything was uncertain.  I wasn’t really enjoying my job.  She called me and said “Do what makes you happy, take a risk on something completely different.  If you don’t like it you’ve lost nothing as you don’t want the role you have now!”  I found it impossible to ignore advice from a woman who has achieved all she has and isn’t stopping any time soon!   She was 100% correct, I have applied this to my personally life too.  Some may say this is cheesy, but I feel sorry for you if your MD isn’t one of your heroes!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am very easily pleased!  I watch a lot of football, walk my dogs, and I love to travel!

If you could have dinner with any person dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I would have to say table for 4 with my 3 grandparents that have passed away.  Why?  I would just have so much to say to them and hear, a lot has happened since I last saw them <3

What’s a fun fact about you that most people at work don’t know?

I cant tell you, it’s a secret!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

For free?  USA, its not cheap for a flight there!

What’s one goal you have for the coming year, either personal or professional?

I turn 40 this year, I decided to set a goal  to travel to 5 countries not including UK. 2 down, 3 to go.

Would you rather meet a bear in the woods or a man?

Can I choose the man? Rio Ferdinand, I love him.  1 of my dogs is named after him!

Would you rather be able to speak any language or speak to pets?

I can already speak to pets, I speak to my 2 Sausage dogs daily…  If they are able to talk back now were talking!

What is your most used app on your phone?

Music player by country miles – its rarely off in work or at home!

A note from Reina our Managing Director.

We are delighted to have Katie as a cherished member of our Mint Family! I had the pleasure of meeting Katie during her time as a client at Mere Golf Resort & Spa, where her warmth, professionalism, and diligence left a lasting impression on me. It was evident from the start that Katie would be a fantastic addition to our team, and I am grateful that she chose to join us.

In her role as Head of Department for Credit Control, Katie has proven to be an invaluable asset to our team. Our ledger has never been better since she took charge.  Her dedication, hard work, and willingness to go the extra mile for Mint and her colleagues are truly commendable.

Katie’s positive attitude and eagerness to assist wherever necessary make her a standout team player.  In fact, this weekend, Katie is utilising her extensive hospitality management experience to manage a significant festival for the Ops Team, showcasing her versatility and commitment to our collective success.
